I wanted to do a followup post based on the Ranzar youtube comic but featuring some of the various artists Ive found over the last week or 2. This post was mainly inspired by a monster/machine enthusiast over steam, She passed a bunch a “Aeromorph” Images to me in hopes of finding a spark of interest. The SC peeps I hang out with tend to be funny perverts and we mess with each other constantly via passing pics back n forth (They know I am a huge whore for sentient mechs). I wasn’t initially interested in some of this stuff at first because Most anthro vehicle art tends to be overly female. Big metal tits, ass, and huge child-bearing hips that don’t really do it for me because I don’t swing that way. What I like? I prefer my dudes as close to their original robotic/vehicular form as possible while still being sentient. But, there is an undeniable passion in some of this art for the silly as well as the sultry. Everyone has a character or 2 that they adore, and I would be remiss not to recognize some of this fabulous stuff and make a post to share.
Oh yeah..I feel a little guilty liking this stuff, because its seen as universally something “only for kids”. Its almost like the reason why I love this stuff is not too dissimilar to why 40 year old “Bronys” fawn over My little pony characters. But fuck it, If you guys don’t find at least most of the following to be absolutely adorable? Seriously just f’ing kill yourself now. My big question now is where and how these terms sprung up on the internet. Terms like “Aeromorph”, “Living-machine”, “Anthro tank” ect. This stuff is so rare and I long for some kind of unifying term so I have something I can pinpoint with on google with just a couple of searches.

He wasn’t necessarily my inspiration (although his hellcat and chaffe stuff is adorable!), I don’t personally think id wanna see rule 34 of his stuff. The style wouldn’t lend to it i think…. I found him out later on and never played WoT. But there was another artist who was inspired by him, and I loved what he did. I just like it when personified machine artists create a style and keep to it, it adds much needed diversity in a small little fandom that seems to only draw pixar style machines. but ALL of these artists- we all influence each other in little ways here n there. This is an old post, and ive given it thought. I don’t think there is enough of us to justify having to deal with spam detail and random flames on a forum. I don’t have much technical web knowledge.
Maybe I stumbled upon hydro once or twice, but I think you could do the stealth destroyer, I’m more into historical ships, I’m a guy, and I find their curves irresistable, like the Bismark for an example. She was curvy, powerfull, and I’d say pretty hot, and on the topic of doing porn: I’m thinking of writing a story of a German WWII Köing Tiger tank crew, I’ve got a small charecter lineup, and a storyline popping around in my head. I like back stories, and characters; like in your drawings, get stuck in my twisted, dual-reality head, and I develop backgrounds and future adventures for then, I’m very weird, people say that I’m just really imaginative/creative. I find it a curse and a blessing, keeps me going through this world, and makes it awkward because some of my friends enter the “alternate” and I would talk to them in the real world about a completely normal subject, I’d feel like it happened in the real world when it happened in the alternate, and they’d be like: “what the- when did we talk about that? I don’t remember that happening.” Yup… Just a “normal” day for me…
I’m hailing from Florida, and I’ve always had a thing for machines, it used to be just ships, I still like em but I’ve diversified, yet I’ve still got sailors blood in me, I’d guess I really started maybe… 4 years ago.

YES! FINALLY! Glad to have someone who’s into this kind of stuff too, I’m pretty good at drawing, not the best, and I’m not really a busty big boobs-ass-hips guy either. More like real human proportions in the arthro style. Yet I do have it more geared to the actual vehicle structure. The drawings of vehicles and humans is exactly my perspective, Ratbat, just wish I could make more and get it out there… Sadly I have no means. I don’t have Skype, but I do have google plus. Hydrothrax started saying “Living Machines” And I picked it up from her. Before that I just relied on describing them to people. I think other people just eventually picked that up too. I’ve seen the term “Anthro machines” “morphs” too.
Yus, I’ve noticed the common connection between Transformers and other “living machine” stuff 😀 but yeah that stuff IS found in a lot of military related stuff though, at least in my experience! Hell I got to paint stuff like that on a self-propelled howitzer at the museum I volunteered at :’D so I think it also comes down to what groups of people you’re in contact with also. I know my family thinks it’s kinda dorky, LOL

The biggest group that you have found may be on DA, but I don’t think you’l ever find the general numbers your looking for. People who gravitate towards the sentient machine stuff they hang out on transformer forums or they make shrines to lesser known characters. If you like transformers well, it’l be an endless gravy train for you. otherwise, The demographic for talking robots/cars/planes etc. will always fall into the realm of “for-kids” stuff. I think its getting a tiny bit better because of Pixars hit shows.

One big giant monster forum 😀 There’s WingnutCity but that seems to be mostly Pixar oriented. IDK LOL. (And it might be less intimidating that something like DA where it’s more art-based, since not everyone in this fandom draw)
Hahaah! I honestly have nothing against NSFW, but where I WILL get the rage-train out is if I see my stuff getting abused in that way (so I’m careful about uploading anything online that’s too personal to me because anything online is essentially public and you really loose control over it no matter how hard anyone tries to reinforce copyrights and whatnot.)
But my general mentality is people should draw whatever they like 😀 because hell, I was extremely uncomfortable with uploading any living machine stuff (and even at school – back in middle and high school – I was worried about being a Transformers fan meaning you were doing “little kid stuff” but I eventually got over that – because of the online mecha/living machine community! Their open-ness was a positive influence on me, so I try to perpetuate that :3)

As for the aeromorph – yeah I think Spitfire might have coined the term but the first airplane anthros I’ve traced back are Turbofanatics (on DA and Tumblr..you should check her works out, they rockkkkk)

– Living Machine was coined by me (at least within friend circles, someone else may have come up with it too elsewhere.)
– I’ve also found it hard to find a way to get all this art type together in one place! I think it’s because it’s a very small/exclusive sort of group, and people seem to be interested in it for very different reasons. As for places I’ve found it, it’s on DA, some on Tumblr but those people are generally there from DA also, then FA (more NSFW stuff tho, not really my jam so I’m not on there as much) and then of course, more recently the World of Tanks forums and such (I actually was drawing the cartoon tanks long before it was a big deal!)
I’ve always thought it’d be cool to have a place where all living machine people could group together, though that’s easier said than done (not all of us seem to get along, at least more recently. There’s been bickering on DA. But that’s an issue in any fandom really.)
I think I was ahead of my time…I keep regular contact with Hydro and Cato and when Hydro found me on FA after being absent for a number of years, we started talking on Skype; apparently my aeromorphs lit a fire under what was at the time a rather obscure and unknown fandom and it grew and blossomed into what it is today. The term ‘aeromorph’ sort of evolved in a series of comments on a pic that no longer exists and I think it’s neat that the term became widely used. I’m just sort of sad and hurt that I was forced off of the internet due to the harassment just as things took off and missed the train. But, I try not to dwell on it and be happy for those who don’t have to suffer like I did. Dwelling on negativity will eat your soul alive, y’know.
As for why I was harassed so, it was complicated. It was the compounded effect of a vengeful ex, a manipulative and somewhat abusive fiancee and pretty much everyone he hung out with. A friend of my now-ex fiancee showed my planes to SomethingAwful.com, and they spread to 4chan. My ex at the time was dating a member of SA who was and still is completely batshit crazy and she enabled and magnified his desire to get revenge on me for leaving him. I still have an entry on Encyclopedia Dramatica under ‘Popcorn’. Anyway, this spiraled into seven years of harassment, bullying, near-identity theft (a friend told me that my bank info/ssn etc had been leaked so I took care of it before anything happened) and actually had people from 4chan find me at my place of work and tell me that I was a sin against humanity and that I needed to die.
Needless to say, I developed issues. Especially after I left my ex and found out what kind of man he really was. Yay, depression!
My only advice to you (and Im sure you know this already) try not to post too much detail about your personal life. Lot of people in the internet want to harvest your tears, have a bug up their ass, and are armchair paragons of morality. Ourselves, we may be off the cuff about some of our ideas , but no ones opinion holds more weight then our own when it comes to what makes us happy. If you got a nice blog, talking about the dirty, nasty, lovely aspects of your fantasies is perfectly ok and don’t let anyone bother you. Also, I had a chance to visit a cached version of that encyclopedia dramatica page, all that? They cant even keep their site hosted (not that Im any different lol) So fuck em.
